In spite of the meanwhile increasing willingness to invest in a top quality lock when buying a new bike, the bicycle theft rate has barely diminished. This is often caused by the negligence of the bike owners.

For this reason you should keep in mind the following:

1. Park your bicycle properly!
The unpopulated street is as bad as a quiet parking area. A frequented place is much better.

2. Use an additional lock!
These are available in all price and quality levels. The longer a thief needs to pick a lock, the higher is the risk that he will be caught.

3. Secure your bicycle to a fixed object!
Whenever it is possible, you should secure your precious bike with a top quality lock to a fixed object.
Therefore you could use long U-shackle locks, high quality lock-chain combinations or the Bordo XL.

4. Your lock should frighten the thief!
The criminal energy is quickly at the end when one can see at a glance that a successful theft can be reached only with much time expenditure.

5. Lock cylinder are weak points!
More and more professional thieves rely on intelligent special tools, with the help of which one can easily open many locks (picking). Many bicycle locks are equipped with tubular cylinders (those with round key). With only one special tool it is a child’s play to open these locks. So: hands off!

6. You should always wear your lock with you!
The best lock has no chance if you do not carry it with you. To a Bordo belongs as standard a transport bag, which can be attached to different frame constructions.

7. Use a second lock!
Secure your bike with two locks of different construction, e.g with a folding lock and a coil cable lock. Professional thieves are mostly specialized on a particular lock type.
